Arenita ‘Toni’ Walker’s debut single on local label Impact was a self-penned track called Step Aside Baby. It proved to be very successful for The Lollipops in Detroit, contributing the Motown’s decision to buy the label in 1968 which secured both The Lollipops and Arenita’s songwriting skills as part of the deal.
As Motown chose to re-locate to LA shortly after, Arenita began writing for David Ruffin, Johnny Taylor and Bobby Womack to name a few before embarking on a collaboration with Bootsy Collins.
