ADY CRAMPTON CHATS TO THE STARS

Cal Street – lead singer of The Velvelettes

February 21, 2021

Cal was only 14 years old when she and four friends formed a singing group without a name.

After winning a talent show in her home town of Kalamazoo, MI, the newly titled Velvelettes were encouraged to audition for Motown by Berry Gordy’s nephew.  However, despite a 5 hour drive through snow, they were very nearly turned away at the door.  By a sheer stroke of luck an old aquaintance came to the rescue and the rest, as they say, is history.

The Velvelettes, with Cal on lead, went on to record some of Motown’s biggest hits.

Here Cal recounts her life in music and discusses her love of British audiences
